BACK TO THE FUTURE!
No, it’s not Sci-Fi but reality!

It’s that time of year when everything seems to start again after the summer break. Schools go back, football and rugby seasons begin and organisations resume their meetings.
So it’s back to normal, back to the established routine of the past. However, it is also back to the future, for all these are looking ahead in terms of work to be done, decisions taken and efforts made to ensure that what is ahead is as good as it can be.
For those returning to school and college, and especially if they are moving on to the next stage in their education, there are goals to be achieved through good teaching and committed application to the studies. With football clubs, there are goals to be scored, and goals to be denied to opposing teams, through training and teamwork in the hope of being the champions. And many societies and organisations within and outside the Christian Church will again be into the regular meetings which plan ahead to try to ensure their effectiveness, success and growth.
The reality is that, without going back into the routines which may seem ‘a bit of a drag’ at times and putting in the necessary effort and work, there will be no real future. Sci-Fi, with its escape from reality into unreality, can be very entertaining but it can also be very distracting. How will you face the reality of going back to the future in the real world as you return to the routine things after the summer break, with commitment to work to be done and decisions to be made?
If that return sounds rather depressing, and people often would like another holiday to get over the one they have just had, remember that the optimism for the greatest future we can have requires us to go back to the future. For our eternal future depends on the death of the Lord Jesus Christ on the Cross at Calvary, two thousand years ago, and our faith in Him as Saviour and Lord.
