Endeavour Day
In Christian Endeavour, February 2nd is recognised as Endeavour Day

In Christian Endeavour, February 2nd is recognised as Endeavour Day. It commemorates the day in 1881 when Rev Francis Clark, pastor of the Congregational Church in Williston, Portland, Maine, put before the young people of his church a proposal to start a group meeting to further their Christian life and development.
The proposals were immediately accepted by the young people and the Williston Young People’s Society of Christian Endeavour was formed. The idea quickly caught on and, by 1884, there were over 250 Societies in America. The movement grew worldwide, crossing the Atlantic to the United Kingdom in 1888. It continues to be a worldwide movement and is important in the youth ministry of major Christian denominations from Germany to Korea, India to Peru.
With its motto ‘For Christ and the Church,’ the purpose of Christian Endeavour is to encourage young Christians to give personal commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ and to train them for His service within the Church through Bible study and practical involvement in activities which will develop their talents for the work required in the Church.
Societies can be set up within churches for Juniors, Young People and Adults so that all ages can benefit through organising and taking part in their meetings and activities, developing skills which will be useful in the church and growing in faith.
Christian Endeavour is a Christ-centred, Bible-based, evangelical, inter-denominational, worldwide movement based on the local church and dedicated to the service of Christ and the Church.
