THE BEST MUM IN THE WORLD!
How do you rate your mother?

We all have occasions to think of our own mother as the Best Mum in the World, especially when she is looking after us and getting us better from some illness or giving us something we have always wanted. There are also times when we might
be less willing to give her that honour, particularly if she has been telling us off, correcting our behaviour, or putting restrictions on what we do.
So, on the one hand, we may put her on a pinnacle or, on the other, try to ignore her. That’s how different sections of the Church have reacted to Mary, the mother of Jesus. However the Church views her, in reality Mary has set standards for mothers
down the centuries.
Mary was a very unselfish mother. She devoted herself to the task of motherhood right from its start. In spite of the unusual, not to say difficult, circumstances, she accepted God’s choice of her to be the mother of the promised Messiah, committing herself to the task of bringing up the Son of God (Luke 1.26-35, 38), giving Him all
her love.
She was a very concerned mother. Concerned when Jesus got left behind in Jerusalem, she was not afraid to reprimand Him and tell Him how she felt He should behave (Luke 2.41-50). She was concerned also, as He began his ministry, that His new ‘job’ would not be understood by others and would put Him in danger. She wished Him to be back home where she could keep an eye on Him (Mark 3.20-22).
She was a very supportive mother. Coming more fully to understand the purpose of His ministry, she gave Him her full support, following Him to Jerusalem on His final visit and being present at the dreadful moment when He was crucified (John 19.25).
If you have a mother who is unselfish in her devotion and love for you, is concerned about your well-being and your future because she wants you to be the best that you can be, and gives you her support and encouragement in your life and work, like I
had, then you have a mother just like Mary, the Best Mum in the World.
