Who we are

Christian Endeavour is a Christ-centred, Church-based organisation, which caters for all age groups within the church from juniors through young adults to seniors, but its main emphasis is on youth.
A young minister, Dr. Francis Clark, founded Christian Endeavour in his church, Williston Congregational, in 1881. He wanted an organisation, which would help young people who had just given their lives to Christ to grow in their faith and to be trained for His service.

Junior CE offers a lively programme for children in the 8-13 age group. Children are encouraged and gradually trained to take part in and be responsible for their own weekly meeting. The meetings can be very varied and activities tailored to the needs of the children offering an action packed programme in which they “learn by doing”. By this the children are fully involved in the planning of and preparing for the meeting.

Young People’s CE caters for young people aged thirteen to twenty-one and the work here is an extension of junior work. The members themselves under the guidance of the Society Leader (s) draw up a varied programme of meetings.
Members are allocated responsibility within each meeting, taking turns to lead, read, pray, sing, give testimony or deliver an address, lead a discussion or Bible study, or whatever else may be included in the programme. Today’s young people are looking for fellowship, fun and challenge and Young People’s CE provides all these and more. Social events, residential weekends, Bible quizzes etc. provide opportunities to meet young people from other areas.
Young Adults' group is an extension of Young People’s CE work and is for those up to the age of thirty-five.

Seniors (anyone over about 35) have a very important role as they continue their affiliation to Christian Endeavour through supporting it prayerfully and financially.
Groups within Seniors also meet on a regular basis; these are Alumni in Scotland and Personal Members in England and Comrades of Endeavour in Ireland.
