CE In Action - Autumn Break 2011

The River Dart
Dartmouth and the Royal Naval College
The “puffer” train

The Wednesday of the mid-week break is by tradition the day when the party go on their day's excursion. This year was no exception and so on 5th October we set out for our round trip on bus, boat and train, which Maureen had arranged for us. Unfortunately weatherwise it was the poorest day of the week and although we did not get wet we did not see any sun. This was unfortunate as the previous weekend and the beginning of the week had been the wonderful, warm sunshine at the start of the month.

We walked from the Park Hotel to Paignton bus station where we took the bus to Totnes on the River Dart. Here we got on the steamer and sailed down the beautiful river. The scenery was superb, although it would have been even better with some sun! We sailed past some small river villages and we saw the house which had been Agatha Christie's summer residence and where she had written many of her books. After about an hour's sail we arrived at the town of Dartmouth situated near the mouth of the river (as its name suggests) and we were able to see the Dartmouth Royal Naval College.

We had about two hours in the town and we were able to explore its various delights. We then crossed the river on the local ferry to Kingswear where we boarded a steam train (very nostalgic) in carriages which had been reserved for our party. The train took us along the sides of the river to eventually bring us back to Paignton.

This had been an excellent “day out” and we thanks Maureen for making the arrangements.

Camp Games

Here we are back from another fun-filled and inspiring CE Camp, the first to have taken place in Shapinsay for over a quarter of a century, I believe. With last year’s theme tying in with the football World Cup and next year’s the Olympics, we thought we could go with a nautical theme inspired by the visit of the Tall Ships to Orkney this summer.

Prizes will be presented to the winners of our 2011 Competition which was to design a table mat on a Biblical theme/text…fabulous results but not giving away any secrets just yet!

There will be praise and worship – how could we CELEBRATE without music? Aiming to finish about 6:30p.m. for tea/coffee/squash and biscuits before departing for home. Why not come along and join in the fun and fellowship and CELEBRATE with us what God has done for you?

Circus Fantastica came to Acre Mill, August 2011

As part of our outreach to the community and to bring youngsters into our JCE and Sunday School Ian and Elaine Coules were invited to present their ‘Circus Fantastica’ programme during the week 22nd-26th August. What a fabulous week we had!

Be amazed was the challenge and amazed we were…

On Saturday 7th May 2011, the N.W. Region of Christian Endeavour held an
extra Fun Day which included a walk in the woods at Grizedale Forest and various water activities on Windermere. It was organised to attract young people, but it was mainly the young at heart that joined in the activities!
