Prayer

Prayer both private and corporate is part of a Christian Endeavourer's life.

Societies are encouraged to include Chain Prayer in their weekly devotional meeting. As many members as are able offer short prayers in quick succession, and whilst newcomers may read a verse of a hymn or scripture or read a written prayer, as confidence builds up and the natural reserve about praying in public diminishes, members will begin to express their own thoughts in their prayers.

The organisation of the chain prayer can be varied as can its position within the meeting. Sometimes someone will be asked to suggest topics for prayer, and if positioned after the main activity, members will often formulate their prayers from what they have learnt from the earlier part of the meeting.

Either as part of a Societies chain prayer or an endeavourers private prayer the following prayer ideas are offered for you to use over the coming weeks

Week beginning 17th November

Pray for the financial situation of the Union.   We praise God for the generosity of Endeavourers over many years and particularly for those who have given legacies.  Pray for our Treasurer, Patrick, who has the responsibility of balancing the books.

Week beginning 24th November

Pray for the Administrator, Avis MacDonald, working in Headquarters in Exeter.   There are many varied duties to perform – pray that she will undertake these with enthusiasm and be granted patience when things do not go smoothly.

Week beginning 1st December

Pray for the English President, Phil Mills in his second year of office. May he know God’s blessing and protection as he travels the country visiting societies and giving encouragement.

Week beginning 8th December

Pray for all the web-masters for CEOnline who are responsible for up-dating the pages, which is so important in order to maintain a professional-looking website.   Pray that they will receive co-operation from others in their Unions.   We can all contribute to making the website successful by providing interesting and relevant material.

Week beginning 15th December

Pray for the youngsters in all the Junior and Young People’s Societies.   May their leaders inspire them to endeavour to follow Jesus and to be strong in the face of opposition from their peers – especially at school and college.

Week beginning 22nd December

Let us praise and thank God as we celebrate the birth of Jesus. Pray that we will be able to concentrate on the true meaning of Christmas rather than the commercial trappings and that we will bear witness of God’s love for mankind to those around us.
